Portland's Ace Hotel
Tracking the progress of Ace Hotel's New York chapter, New York Magazine's Intelligencer reports that they have taken over the Breslin Hotel on 29th St and Broadway. Ace's own, Rudy's Barbershop and Portland's Stumptown coffee have been brought into the mix. Roman and Williams have been hired as the architects. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2009.

Alex Calderwood's empire is expanding again. The New York chapter of his Ace Hotel franchise is in the works, but his Palm Springs hotel will probably open before that does. Calderwood and his business partner Wade Weigel purchased 4.5 acres several months ago that is currently in development. Formerly a Howard Johnson hotel and Denny's restaurant, the hotel is expected to service the low and medium budget design conscious traveler.
